The Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Berlin, founded in 1990 by Johann Plietzsch, has specialized in trumpet music from the period between 1500 to 1800. The ensemble’s repertoire of the  ensemble thus ranges from the ealiest preserved intradas and festive works of the courtly trumpet ensembles through the music from the heyday of the art of clarino playing in Europe - the end of the seventeenth to the middle of the eighteenth centuries - up to the trumpet parts in the orchestra of the Classical period.

The core of the ensemble is formed by four baroque trumpets and timpani. The collaboration with singers and other instrumentalists makes it possible to show the large range of musical possibilities of the historical instruments - from the most intimate chamber music to the sonorous splendor of the music of the royal courts -  in all facets, and in this way to make the tonal richness of early music accessible to the listener.

The Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Berlin has collaborated in concerts and recordings with the Bremen Baroque Orchestra, Musica Alta Ripa (Hanover), the Saxon Baroque Orchestra (Leipzig), the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle, Musica Florea (Prague) and the ensemble Consortium Sedinum (Stettin). Up to now, the Ensemble has performed at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Trigonale Festival (Maria Saal - Austria), at the Berlin Bachtage, the Music Festival Potsdam-Sanssouci, the Göttingen Handel Festival, the summer music festivals in Saxon-Anhalt and  Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Weikersheim Castle Music Festival, and the Hohenloher Kultursommer Festival, and was a guest at the International Summer Academy for Early Music in Wilanów Castle (Warsaw). Concerts tours have taken the Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Berlin  to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Norway, Israel, Czech Republic and Poland.

Besides numerous concert appearances and engagements as guest ensemble for CD productions, the Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Berlin each year produces one our two of its own concert programs in which - far removed from the usual Baroque concert repertoire for trumpets - early music recently discovered in archives is performed in very colorful formations.

The CDs Tromba Hispanica - 17th-Century Music for the Spanish Court Trumpets (2011) and The King’s Christmas - Christmas at the court of the english Kings (2012) previously appeared on the Raumklang label. Both productions have received outstanding reviews in the trade press, and have been broadcast on the radio throughout Europe.

Mr. Handel’s Trumpeters | English Trumpetmusic from Purcell to Handel - the new CD of Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Berlin will be released at label Edition Raumklang (distribution: Harmonia mundi) in the September 2015.
